Since its founding in 2008, APTCCARN has held six meetings across the Asia-Pacific region, linking intergenerational knowledge and heritage professionals. We provide a platform for sharing regionally relevant conservation practices and question what it means to conserve material culture in the tropics.

2024 I Roundtable Panel at ICAS13

Universitas airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia

APTCCARN Members Nicole Tse and Eliza O’Donnell were part of a roundtable panel addressing the theme ‘Working along the archival grain: Building, preserving and sharing independent art archives and cultural material in Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia’ for the 13th International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS13) in Surabaya, Indonesia. Chaired by Eliza O’Donnell, panel members included Nicole Tse, Kiki Rizky Soetisna Putri, Agni Saraswati, Lisistrata Lusandiana, Brandon Liew and Chloe Ho.

APTCCARN6 was co-organised by APTCCARN (Asia Pacific Tropical Climate Art Research Network), Institut Konservasi and the Grimwde Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation, The University of Melbourne.

 

2022 | Panel Presentation

APTCCARN Members Diana Tay, Saiful Bakhri, Ana Labrador and Nicole Tse were part of a panel presentation on The right to conserve cultural material?: Decision making and materiality, chaired by Eliza O’Donnell at the 24th Biennial Conference of the Asian Studies, Association of Australia (ASAA), 5 - 8 July 2022, Monash University, Clayton.

APTCCARN Members Sabine Cotte, Diana Tay and Eliza O’Donnell were part of a panel presentation on The Right to Conserve Cultural Material?: Decision Making & Materiality, chaired by Ana Labrador and Nicole Tse, at the 11th International Convention of Asia Scholars, Leiden, the Netherlands.

2017 | APTCCARN5

National Museum, Bohol, Philippines

In 2017, APTCCARN held its 5th Meeting in Tagbilaran City and Towns on the Island of Bohol, the Philippines over 4-6 April. Natural Disasters and Cultural Heritage in the Philippines: Knowledge Sharing, Decision Making and Conservation aimed to expand people-to-people linkages among a diverse range of skills, capabilities, and experiences of cultural heritage recovery and disaster management. The forum was led by community knowledge holders and cultural heritage practitioners, who shared their recent experiences from the natural disasters and cultural heritage recovery projects in the Philippines.

2015 | APTCCARN4

Cheng Shiu University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan

In 2015, APTCCARN held its 4th Meeting in Taiwan at the Conservation Center, Cheng Shiu University. The Embracing Cultural Materials Conservation in the Tropics: The 4th APTCCARN Meeting focused on Asia Pacific’s diverse climate, history and future. The meeting aimed to embrace cultural materials conservation in the region, our experiences and the future.

2012 | APTCCARN3

Silpakorn University, Nakhon Pathom, Thailand

The 3rd APTCCARN Meeting, The Conservation of Material Culture in Tropical Climates was held at Silpakorn University in Thailand over 23-25 April, 2012. It was a targeted forum for the dissemination and discussion of regionally relevant preservation solutions for Southeast Asia's vast cultural record.

 

2011 | Panel Presentation

APTCCARN Members Nicole Tse, Larry Cruz, Supanee Chayabutra, Roy Sit Kai Sin were part of a panel presentation on Twentieth Century Southeast Asian Works of Art: Materials Choices and Behaviour, chaired by Ana Labrador, at the Association of Asian Studies and International Convention of Asian Studies Meeting, Hawaii Convention Center, Honolulu.

2009 | APTCCARN2

The University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia

The 2nd APTCCARN Meeting, On-line web portals for Art Conservation and Curatorial Research, was held at the University of Melbourne in Australia, over 23-24 March 2009. The Meeting was also held in association with the Australian Research Council Project, The 20th Century in Paint.

2008 | Inaugural Meeting

Balai Seni Negara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The inaugural APTCCARN Meeting, 20th Century Art Conservation Research Public Symposium, was held at Balai Seni Lukis Negara (National Visual Art Gallery) in Malaysia on 11 June, 2008.
